Chobe National Park: One of Africa's best parks

Located in northern Botswana, Chobe National Park is one of Africa's most rewarding safari destinations and is famous for having the largest elephant population in the world, with more than 120,000 elephants roaming the park. It is especially known for the beautiful Chobe River, where visitors can enjoy incredible wildlife viewing from both vehicles and boats.

A safari in Chobe offers an exciting introduction to Africa's wildlife, with excellent opportunities to see elephants, lions, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, leopards and a remarkable variety of birds.

1. See Africa's Largest Elephant Herds

Chobe is renowned for its huge elephant population. During the dry season, thousands of elephants gather along the Chobe River to drink, play, and cool off. Watching families of elephants swimming across the river or bathing at the water's edge is one of the park's most memorable experiences.

2. Enjoy a Unique Boat Safari

Unlike many safari destinations, Chobe offers boat safaris on the Chobe River. From the comfort of a boat, you can get close views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and large herds of buffalo as they come to the water. The river perspective provides excellent photography opportunities and a completely different safari experience from a traditional game drive.

3. Explore Diverse Landscapes

Chobe's varied habitats support an incredible diversity of wildlife:

  • Chobe Riverfront: The park's most popular area, known for its river views, elephant herds, and abundant wildlife.

  • Savuti Marsh: Vast grasslands famous for dramatic predator sightings, including lions and hyenas.

  • Linyanti Swamps: A remote wetland rich in birdlife and wildlife.

  • Nogatsaa Region: A quieter wilderness area with woodlands and natural waterholes that attract many animals.

4. Discover a Birdwatcher's Paradise

With more than 450 recorded bird species, Chobe is a dream destination for bird lovers. Keep an eye out for the striking African Fish Eagle, colourful Southern Carmine Bee-eater, and African Skimmer, especially during the summer months when migratory birds arrive.

5. Experience Exciting Predator Sightings

Chobe is not only about elephants. The park is also home to lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, cheetahs and the endangered African wild dog. The Savuti region is particularly famous for its impressive lion prides and thrilling wildlife encounters.

Why you should go to Chobe:

Chobe combines exceptional wildlife density, diverse habitats, and unique river safaris in one easily accessible destination. Whether you're watching elephants bathe in the river, cruising past hippos at sunset, or tracking lions across the savannah, Chobe delivers the classic African safari experience many travelers dream of.
